This is a notice to let everyone know that on Saturday, October 25, 2014, the Food Scraps Drop Spot resumes on Saturday mornings (10 am to noon) at the Gordon Neighbourhood House.
As in the past few years, this shift was in hiatus over the summer of 2014, while the West End Farmers Market was in operation. The Market had its last day on October 18, so we are able to pick up operations without skipping a beat. Please write email@example.com to volunteer. Orientation November 1.
Our other two shifts continue, so the current options in the West End will be as follows:
- WEST END COMMUNITY CENTRE (SATURDAYS 10 am – 12 noon)
GORDON NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE (SATURDAYS 10 am – 12 noon)
GORDON NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE (TUESDAYS 6 pm – 7:30 pm)
This is advance notice for our next workshop – Introduction to Organic Food Gardening: The basics of planning, preparing and starting a food garden. Simple techniques for starting plants indoors too. November 25, 2014. 7:30 pm. West End Community Centre. Register through WECC.
This workshop will be preceded by our November Potluck, 6:30-7:30 pm.
Thank you to the energetic group of food lovers who participated in the WENFN Community Potluck — A Tasty Exploration of Local Food Cycles (Oct 19) at the Community Centre. This was our event to mark the final day of the citywide food-inspired Sustenance Festival. We ended up achieving our goal of looking at how many aspects of a local food loop (production, preparation, consumption, composting, and education) we can incorporate into one meal. We ended up with virtually no food waste, and virtually zero garbage. Many people brought local ingredients. Photos will be posted soon. The discussion was great, and new ideas arose, to be followed up. Thanks again, everyone. More events like this are to come!
