The West End Food Festival 2015 has many must-see events! It runs September 17 to 22, and involves many partners.
West End Neighbourhood Food Network (WENFN) is helping organize and sponsor the event. All events are great, and we encourage you to consider all of them, but the three specific events organized by WENFN are below.
Native Edibles Workshop and Walk, Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Start at Gordon Neighbourhood House.
It can be easy to forget about the wealth of food that grows all around us. In this workshop presented by the West End Neighbourhood Food Network, you’ll learn about edible plants that call our region home, and we’ll discuss how to identify and harvest wild, edible, and medicinal plants in an ethical way. Sustenance Festival 2015 – This is a city-wide food-inspired festival, October 13-25. Main website: http://sustenancefestival.ca/events-2015/
With this festival, WENFN is organizing these events:
- October 18 (Sunday) 1-3 pm: October Potluck and Sprouting workshop at West End Community Center, Barclay Room. Free. Registration: #13369. Workshop led by Makiko Suzuki.
- October 22 (Thursday) 7-9 pm: Concepts in Year Round Gardening workshop, at West End Community Centre. Free. Registration: #9813. The Whys and Wherefores of food cycles – why we want them, and how to get them. Plan round-the-calendar food supplies, both in the larder and stored in the garden. We’ll have the WENFN seed library there – you can get some free seeds for your garden or swap or donate seeds. .
- Monthly Potluck and mini-workshop
- Introduction to Organic Food Gardening workshop
POTLUCKS: Share some good food and conversation with neighbours. Bring something yummy to share and a cup/bowl/utensil if you can. Find out the latest food and network news. We usually combine the potluck with a special mini-workshop on a food and gardening related topic. Free. Everyone welcome!
