Community Potluck, Seed & Plant Swap & Workshop

Join West End Neighbourhood Food Network and Village Vancouver at our monthly family friendly gatherings. Bring something yummy and share some good food and conversation with neighbours, and pick up a West End Urban Garden Calendar We’ll have a community seed library there – pick up some free seeds for your garden, or swap or donate seeds or plants. 2018-19 West End Urban Gardening Calendars will also be available. Each month we present a mini-workshop on a different food and/or gardening related topic: September – Growing Winter Herbs! (Everyone’s invited to bring your gardening photos to share!), October –  Herbal Teas, November – Making Holiday Wreaths and Other Seasonal Items   Advance registration encouraged.

West End Urban Garden Club 

Join us in exploring possibilities for creating a new community garden and other gardening spaces in the West End. We’ll also be organizing food and gardening workshops, doing some seed saving, and engaging in other food and gardening related activities. In addition, our WeBee pollinators group will be giving out Mason bee houses (while supplies last). Each month we hold a discussion or present a short talk on a food related topic of interest to West Enders and others. September – Gardening and Climate Change, October –  Birds and Plants, November –  Wind, Rain, and Plants. All ages welcome! Advance registration encouraged.

Introduction to Japanese Fall Vegetables

If you love Japanese food and are interested in growing  some wonderful Japanese vegetables next year, here’s your chance to learn. In this Village Vancouver and West End Urban Garden Club workshop presented byTonari Gumi (Japanese Volunteer) Garden Club, we’ll discuss how to grow these nutritional vegetables and then follow with a sampling of these in delicious, easy recipes. Find out how the library works, learn about WE Food Network’s Garden Club and Village Vancouver’s seed libraries and seed saving efforts around the city, and meet fellow gardeners and seed savers and share tips. Making Beeswax Salves w/ Lori Snyder

In this West End Urban Garden Club workshop with Lori Snyder, you’ll discover how to make beeswax salves with infused plant oils. It’s quick and easy, and beeswax salves have many different applications, including lip balms, natural skin care, hand salves and salves for wounds and sprains. Gardeners – you can make salves from your garden from a variety of plant infused olive oils blended into beeswax.
