The Canadian government is considering a nationwide ban on one of the most deadly bee-killing chemicals in the world! Canada’s Ministry of Health is taking public comments before it makes its final decision in three weeks. The pesticide industry has promised to fight hard to stop it — so we need to add our voices now.

Join West End Urban Garden Club’s WeBee group for an interactive workshop on pollinators with Erin from Environmental Youth Alliance and learn how to recognize some of the native species in Vancouver.

Find out what types of plants will support our local bees and keep them buzzing in our balconies and garden – even the smallest green spaces can make a difference!

The new WENFN-GNH-VV community seed library will be present, and you’ll be able to get some free seeds – including pollinator attractant seeds – for your garden, or swap or donate seeds.

Join WENFN and Village Vancouver on World Food Day at our monthly family friendly gathering. Bring something yummy and share some good food and conversation with neighbours. We’ll have a seed library there – you can get some free seeds for your garden, or swap or donate seeds or plants.

This month the potluck mini-workshop will discuss the book “Eating on the Wild Side: The Missing Link to Optimal Health” by Jo Robinson, recipient of the 2014 International Association of Culinary Professional’s Cookbook Award in the category of “Food Matters.” As an investigative reporter, she explores the next stage in the food revolution — a radical way to select fruits and vegetables and reclaim the flavor and nutrients we’ve lost. On a practical level, she offers suggests on the best varieties of popular fruits and vegetables with the highest nutritional values. It will change how you select and grow vegetables!

WENFN’s West End Urban Garden Club meets 2:30 to 3:30 pm, after the potluck/workshop. Join us in exploring possibilities for creating a new community garden and other gardening spaces in the West End.

This month’s theme is World Food Day — Challenging Poverty and Food Insecurity.

We’ll also hear from our WeBee and Seed Savers groups, and discuss potential new workshops and activities. All ages welcome!
